The Social Construction of Reality
Peter L. Berger & Thomas Luckmann 1966

Berger and Luckmann introduced the term "social construction" into the social sciences and were strongly influenced by the work of Alfred Schütz.

Alfred Schutz (1899 - 1959)
He related Edmund Husserl's work to the social sciences.  Schutz went to lectures given by Max Weber, and felt that Weber had left the problem of meaning unanswered. Schutz was highly critical of Mead’s behavioristic approach.
